Eve Lom TLC Radiance cream

Posted in skincare with tags , , on July 18, 2009 by lunarsoul

Eve Lom Moisturiser TLC Radiance Cream is a daily moisturiser to help your skin look and feel soft, hydrated, youthful and radiant. Suitable for all skin conditions and ideal for everybody who looks for a lightweight daily moisturiser which not only hydrates, but also provides lifting and complexion boosting action.

Naturally fragranced with the most luxurious and natural essential oil Rose Otto of Bulgaria, Eve Lom TLC Radiance Cream contains an exclusive blend of highly effective ingredients:

Arctic Raspberry seed oil, a powerful antioxidant,

Rosehip seed oil, a natural source of Vitamin A and Vitamin C to protect skin from damaging free radicals and to restore skin elasticity. The result a more youthful complexion

Oat Kernel Extract and Sepilift, a triple action lifting complex provide immediate skin lifting and help to smooth fine lines instantly.

For a more radiant complexion added Silica Mica smooth out skin imperfections and add natural sheen and radiance to the skin.

Combined with Hyaluronic Acid skin will be immediately moisturised and longer lasting skin hydration is guaranteed.

I was totally amused by this new moisturiser; Unlike the rest of Eve lom’s product, this wonderful moisturizer is lotion gel like in texture ( despite  it’s named cream ), totally refreshing and non occlusive! It even mattifies my skin when i use it over my holy grail face oil ( ILA ), during day time.

I find my skin less greasy whenever i use this miracle product, be it over serum or oil. This is definitely my new holy grail multi-purpose moisturizer. It’s also a great makeup primer, helping my powder to glide on effortlessly.

The only claim it fails to fulfill is adding radiance, as the silica/mica formulation fail to  deliver even a subtle sheen on my skin upon application.

The Times – Top skincare products

My personal views on Times fashion team’s picks:

1) Prescriptives Super Line Preventor

px_379M_R200

Protective barrier serum that helps to give the skin an even texture; cocktail of targeted antioxidants that diminishes the look of lines and wrinkles by up to 54%.

Armed with Super Antioxidant System (SAS), it defends against the visible aging effects of free radicals triggered by environmental assaults both immediately after exposure and again up to 72 hours later. It helps strengthen skin and boost its natural defenses by helping skin bolster its collagen production to improve visible skin tone, radiance and diminish the appearance of lines and wrinkles.

I prefer Estee Lauder’s  Advance Night Repair.

d_200906_mppmw_anr-learn

This comprehensive, high-performance anti-aging serum ( inspired by groundbreaking DNA research ) helps continuously repair the appearance of past damage, prevent future damage and deliver high levels of hydration.

This advanced formula – with 20 patents worldwide – includes Chronolux™ Technology, neutralizes up to 90%* of environmentally generated free radicals before they can affect skin’s appearance ; creates the optimal environment for repair with nature’s long-proven moisture magnet – Hyaluronic Acid ; soothes daily irritation and builds a rich anti-oxidant reserve to help replenish skin’s natural protectants.

2) Neal’s Yard rose water toner

Inexpensive, natural toner that helps to freshen up and tighten the skin.

Rose water  is an effective, exhilarating freshener that not only tones the skin but also lifts the spirit. Neal’s Yard is the most economic i had tried ; Aromatherapy Associates has a damask rose facial toner ;  Amanda Lacey & Chantecaille  both have luxurious rose tonics ( almost pure rose distillate ).

Neil’s Yard rose water contains alcohol and strictly speaking, it’s aloe juice with rose essential oil.

3) Elemis Pro-Collagen Marine Cream

00267_lg

Helps to reduce the depth of wrinkles and hydrates the skin to give the face a plumped-up, youthful glow. This revolutionary Anti-Ageing cream uses the Marine extract Padina Pavonica to transform the complexion in just over 2 weeks. Trials proved that the appearance in wrinkle depth was reduced by up to 78% and that hydration was increased by up to 45%. Skin firmness and elasticity are dramatically increased, whilst providing superior free radical protection.

Collagen is a great moisture magnet, but i don’t believe topical application of collagen enriched skin cream could revive/enhance collagen production in the dermis. I prefer creams with retinoids, peptides, alpha hydroxy acids.

4) Jurlique Biodynamic Beauty Serum

104700_m

A lightweight serum made from biodynamic ingredients ; Rich in the living energy of organic Black Elder and Licorice, this serum helps fade discolorations and brightens skin for increased radiance ; Beech Tree Buds, Hibiscus and Yeast help strengthen the skin.

Jurlique’s biodynamic serum leaves a matt finish due to the presence of starch and i don’t find it nourishing enough. Biodynamic? Sounds more like a marketing scam.

5) Eve Lom Kiss Mix

Compact lip treatment which moisturises lips and gives a dewy, subtle sheen. One application lasts a long time.

My favorite! ( at least one of ) – dense enough for protection and nourishment , yet light enough for comfort; It’s also quite “minty” on application; The only complaint is you have to dip your finger into the pot……

6) Natura Bissé facial cleansing gel + AHA

A refreshing, wash-off, gel cleanser with alpha hydroxy acids that leaves your face clean without any drying effects.

I prefer Dermalogica’s age smart version.

7) Vaishaly night cream

A light yet very nourishing night cream that is easily and hygenically dispensed from a nifty press pump.

I enjoy using Vaishaly’s product; no hypes, simple rituals, delicate scents, good enough to eat ingredients……

8) Dermalogica Daily Microfoliant

Extremely gentle exfoliant that can be used every day for a brighter-looking appearance.

As I use Eve Lom’s cleanser with polishing cloth, i find this unnecessary ; However, powdery paste like Dermalogica’s  daily microfoliant  is less abrasive when skin is blemished/irritated/inflammed. Calmia has a similar version ( skin bright micro polish ), both containing fruit enzymes and acids to renew the skin.

9) Chanel Précision Lait Confort creamy cleansing milk

A light, everyday cleaning milk which is soft on the skin and effectively removes the day’s grime.

There are plenty of equally efficient cleansing milk out there, which your bank manager will agree……

10) Dr Sebagh creme Extreme Maintenance

Ultra-rich cream specifically designed for very dry or sensitive skin. Absorbs easily.

Great cream, worth every penny, in my opinion.

11) Estee Lauder DayWear Plus multi-protection antioxidant creme SPF 15

An easily absorbed daily moisturiser with antioxidants and the bonus of an inbuilt SPF 15.

This kind of formulation might be a breakthrough in the 90’s, but what’s so special about it nowadays? I demand my day cream to have antioxidant properties and sun screens ( including sufficient UVA protection )

12) Ila face mask for revitalising skin

ILA05-AW08-1

Clay-based mask infused with Damascene rose otto and Argan oil that draws out impurities without drying the skin. Gives the face a bright glow.

Best mask i had ever used! Even outdone Eve Lom’s……

13) Lancôme Flash Bronzer

Idiot-proof bronzer that quickly develops an even, natural, sun-kissed glow.

I prefer Dior’s or Guerlain’s.

14) The Organic Pharmacy Honey and Jasmine mask

Organic mask that is deeply hydrating for dry, parched skin. Use as a mask or leave on overnight.

Runny upon application + sticky when dry = messy

15) No7 Protect and Perfect night cream

The legendary cream from Boots: this restorative, replenishing cream delivers long-lasting hydration and a smooth, fresh appearance.

Never try this before! I prefer Olay’s

16) Spiezia organic facial cleanser

125_1_L

A 100% organic product that is approved by the British Soil Association. A deep cleanser that removes heavy make-up, leaving your skin feeling super-soft.

Addictive! An effective yet nurturing cleanser, nice texture, soul soothing aromas. I almost replace my Eve Lom’s with this!

17) Dr Haushka Rose Day Cream

Deeply nourishing day cream made from biodynamic ingredients. Great for dry skin or for very cold climates.

I find this a rather basic moisturizer, not worth the hypes/claims.

18) YSL eye make-up remover

A gentle yet highly effective remover that doesn’t sting the eyes. Also contains pro-vitamin B5, which coats and strengthens the lashes.

Lancome has better versions.

19) Guinot Anti Fatigue Yeux eye gel

Relaxes and soothes heavy and swollen eyelids and helps to reduce the appearance of fatigue.

I had never tried Guinot’s product.

20) Darphin Purifying Balm

Gorgeous-smelling, plant-based balm that helps to prevent breakouts.

I prefer blemish sticks by Clarins or Clinique. Tea tree oil does the trick as well.

21) Garnier Ultra Lift eye cream

Visibly reduces the appearance of wrinkles around the eyes.

I use La Mer.

22) SK-II skin refining treatment

Lifts away layers of dead skin cells to leave radiant, clear-looking skin. A discernible improvement can be seen after a month’s use. No added fragrance.

Overpriced cream that has a very tiny portion of BHA – save your money. Dr Sebagh’s masque once a week delivers better result than daily use of this marketing gimmicks.

23) Clarins Beauty Flash Balm

Revitalising, creamy gel that tightens the skin and adds a natural glow. Great as a base before applying make-up.

It may be a great product in the 80’s…… We have better and deserve better!

24) Sisley Broad Spectrum Facial Sunscreen, SPF 30

Colourless, high-protection sunscreen which absorbs easily and is non-greasy.

Pricey sunscreen, i would rather spend the money on air ticket.

ILA Face oil for glowing radiance

Posted in fragrance, skincare with tags , , , , , , on July 4, 2009 by lunarsoul

Ila Face Oil is a nourishing treatment that gives skin a glowing radiance.

This organic face oil has been called a ‘little miracle’. Your skin will rediscover its natural bloom and you will notice a healthy glow to your face. By revitalising skin at a deep level, it nourishes and heals.

MM791975

Ila Face Oil protects against the sun’s rays, nourishes and heals the skin and also works beautifully as a makeup primer. It wears beautifully under make up and is a great moisturiser for all skin types, even acne-prone. It is 92.52% organic and comes in a white, opaque bottle with dropper.

The essential oil of damascena rose otto deeply regenerates and nourishes the skin’s cells and imparts glowing radiance while argan oil and rosehip seed oil are high in anti-oxidants and fatty acids to fight wrinkles and help skin cells to regenerate.

ila_rose_damascena

I call this Winner of Marie Claire UK’s Prix D’Excellence International Beauty Award a  ” Fragrant Facial “. The ultra nourishing oil glides on smoothly, absorbed  instantly, leaves a glowing veil and intoxicating rose aroma. It’s great as a facial massage oil. I loves using it as a pampering treat underneath my night cream before retiring to bed.

Ingredients: Wild-Grown Argan Oil (Argania Spinosa Kernal)*, Rosehip Seed Oil (Rosa Canina)*, Sandalwood (Santalam Spicatum), Rose Otto Oil (Rosa Damascena Flower Oil), Vitamin E Oil (Tocopherol Extract), Naturally Occurring Citronellol, Farnesol, Linalool.

Dermalogica Age Smart skin resurfacing cleanser

Posted in skincare with tags , , , , , on June 23, 2009 by lunarsoul

This smoothing cleanser provides an exceptional beginning to your anti-aging regimen. It delicately removes dirt, debris, excess oil and makeup, leaving the skin fresh and pure.

Lactic acid exfoliates away dead skin cells while hydrating and brightening the skin.

Rose flower oil calms sensitivity, and vitamin E provides antioxidant protection, conditioning, and softening benefits all while locking in moisture for a plumper, more supple complexion.

Developed for mature and prematurely aging skin, this gentle cleanser prepares the skin for further treatment, leaving it perfectly cleansed, soft and comfortable.

I had read about reviews of this cleanser in Makeupalley, most of the users were complaining that this powerful cleanser tends to dry up the skin and is too low foaming for an effective cleansing.

It doesn’t make my retin A treated skin flaky or irritated ( may be my skin had accustomed to “harsh” treatment after retinoid acid ). It smell is not as rosy as i would prefer. However, it does clean reasonably well, leaves my skin smooth & bright.

I found a way to make it foamy enough for my preference; i apply it on dry face, like any other milky cleanser, massage it all over, then add in a handful of luke warmth water. The emulsified solution will foams, and in my opinion, a rather dense fine foam!

I also use it all over my body as an exfoliant /moisturiser, without any adverse effect. I purchased this product in salon size!

Ingredients: Water (Aqua), Sodium Laureth Sulfate, Lactic Acid, PPG-2 Hydroxyethyl Cocamide, Cocamidopropyl Betaine, Glyceryl Stearate SE, Polyacrylate-1 Crosspolymer, Tocopheryl Acetate, Titanium Dioxide, Sodium Hydroxide, Disodium EDTA, Benzyl PCA, Phenoxyethanol, Butylene Glycol, Citral, Citronellol, Eugenol, Farnesol, Geraniol, Hydroxycitronellal, Isoeugenol, Limonene, Linalool, Acorus Calamus, Aniba Rosaeodora (Rosewood) Wood Oil, Eugenia Caryophyllus (Clove) Flower Oil, Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Oil, Pelargonium Graveolens Flower Oil, Rose Flower Oil, Citrus Medica Limonum (Lemon) Peel Oil/Extract, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride.

Clarins new foaming cleansers

As gentle as cleansing milk and as effective as soap, Clarins Gentle Foaming Cleanser ( for Dry & Sensitive skin ) has been fortified with Gypsophila extract, Shea Butter & Pro-Vitamin B5 to meet the needs of dry or sensitive skin.

This gentle cleanser is delicately perfumed ( smell really delicious, kind of like gourmet ), minimally foaming, rinsed off easily ( but not residue free ). It leaves a moisturizing film that makes the skin smooth & silky.

Gentle Foaming cleanser ( Normal & Combination ) is a superbly foaming cleanser that rinsed off completely, leaving the complexion refreshed. I absolutely adore the dense, luxurious foams and it doesn’t dry out my skin; despite the deep cleansing sensation. It contains cottonseed extract to soften the skin.

Gentle Foaming cleanser ( Combination or Oily ) is foamy, but not as densely foaming as the normal version. The so called purifying microbeads are annoying as they are not dense enough, not polishing enough to do anything ( you probably get 5 beads per wash ). It doesn’t rinsed off completely nor it controls sebum secretion. Tamarind extract was added for refining properties.  My skin is not any brighter or mattier  after washing with this, although it degreases effectively.

In my opinion, the normal or combination skin version is the best, and i like the fragrance of the dry skin version most.

Vinoperfect Radiance Revealing Mask

Posted in skincare with tags , on May 10, 2009 by lunarsoul

Caudalie’s Vinoperfect Radiance Revealing Mask replicates the application methods used in spas and eliminates the usual ‘messy hands’ situation. These transparent masque is supposed to be left on for 10 minutes, followed by rinsing.

Using a gentle exfoliating grape acid and mild enzyme exfoliant, the mask helps reveal younger, fresher and brighter looking skin in just ten minutes when applied twice a week.

Caudalie_30sept08_b.jpg

This  mask claims to renew the appearance of skin, tighten the appearance of pores and provide an immediate burst of radiance

Active Ingredients
Titrated Viniferine 200ppm
Gentle Grape acid exfoliator and nonirritating enzymatic peel
Moisturizing Grape-seed oil and vegetable glycerine

Caudalie Vinoperfect Radiance Revealing Mask is lightly fragranced with notes of bergamot, green mandarin, orange flower, watermelon and crushed mint. Its energizing, phyro-aromatic fragrance evokes the freshness of water and citrus.

This creamy masque is hydrating & protecting ( with  anti-oxidants ). So are the rest of the creamy masks over the counter.

I find the brush delivery system the only the pioneering factor  ( in the category of masques, as YSL had used this in its foundation & primer ).

I did not see my skin getting any more radiant than it was, only more moisturized, and my pores are definitely the same in sizes.
